In Memory of Shadow and Sheba and my Grand 'hupop'

In honor of Memorial Day, I remember Shadow and Sheba and Curtis Lawson.

For those of you who have purchased my book, The Adventures of Precious The Dog; you will be familiar with my canine syblings Shadow and Sheba who are both in doggie heaven. They were my very bestest friends when I came to live in my new home as a little puppy.

They were both over 10 years old by the time i arrived, but I like to think I kept them young and they showed me the ropes.

They both passed away within a few months of each other when they were 14 years old. Sheba, an Austrailian Shephard, played until her last day. Shawdow the best rescue dog I've ever met shared the same spot patterns as me, so I thought HE was my mom there for a while.

The other tribute in my book is to my Grand Hupop, Curtis Lawson who always said "I don't like dogs" but we all liked him and often fell asleep at his feet. (or for me right next to him on the couch). I think secretly, he really liked dogs.

The story of Grand hupop and the sandwich is a family legend.
It goes like this: All of the family was gathered at my HuMom's house in Texas. They had a great dinner and everyone was off to bed. Grand Hupop went in the kitchen to make a sandwich out of the last of the meat. Shadow, he thought, was fast asleep on the floor.

As Grand Hupop went off to the bathroom, he carfully placed his sandwich on top of a paper towel and then on top of his water glass... on the floor. You know how this is going to turn out. When he got back from the bathroom his sandwich was GONE paper towel and water in tact, and Shadow still "sleeping" in the corner.

They both relished in the telling of that story.

On this Memorial Day, I want to remember Shadow, Sheba, and my Grand Hupop, Curtis Lawson. I know he's feeding Shadow his sandwiches in heaven.
