Deuce has a wonderful new family

Congratulations to Deuce!  

I can't tell you how happy I am for this little dog. 

After Deuce showed back up to our home last week, I re-posting him on RescueMe.org.

Just six days after posting him, I received an email asking if he was still available.  

I sent the video of Deuce and she and her kids fell in love with Deuce.

The good news the following day was they wanted to do a test with him over the weekend.

Saturday morning, Deuce and I set out on a journey to his new home.  

During our drive, he rested his head on my hand.  

I think he was trying to thank me while forgiving me for the first adoption mistake.

Deuce's new home is beautiful. Like the Jeffersons, Deuce is moving on up!  

 The backyard is even more beautiful.  He was a sport right off the bat.  Came into the house and was calm and cool as we talked about him and I got a chance to meet the family.

The young kids came out to play as Deuce got familiar with his new back yard.  He got a little obsessed with the little girl, and I was a little nervous, but he calmed down a bit and once back in the house, Deuce followed the kids to get a tour of his new digs.

This morning (Monday) I just had to know how things went over the weekend.  Was my boy on his best behavior?  Did they love him as much as we do and as much as he deserved?

YES!

The email I received from his new HuMom was a great one.  They took him to Petco and he sleeps in the bed with them.  Just like he likes.

Deuce in his persistence  taught me not to settle for anything less than what's right.

   Deuce refused to be mistreated or ignored.  From the first home he escaped from, to the second one.  Each time he came to us to get it right.  I'm happy to say, we did.

What a handsome boy.

Deuce Brindle Pitbull Needs a Forever Home: Tulsa, OK

We rescued Deuce along with three other strays last fall. 

We decided to keep Nala, the female.  Rocky (male) was adopted, then brought back after a landlord issue. 

Deuce was also adopted and just as we were getting our schedule down with all three of our dogs, Deuce showed up.

The other day, Deuce was outside our house cold and hungry. An escape artist or needing to escape?  We'll never know. 

Deuce really deserves to be in a safe and loving home. He gets along with other dogs, but he and our other rescued male don't get along. 

He loves Rocky, but Rocky is aggressive towards him. (it goes back to their stray days fighting over Nala, the female). 

We're now keeping Rocky and Deuce apart.  Nala is great with both of them and provides much needed exercise fun. (We owe her some extra treats) 

Deuce is a great cuddle buddy, He and Precious get along well and he's great at just chilling with her. 

Deuce also loves to go for rides, walks, run, and play in the backyard.  He usually wins the tug of war. 

Oh, & he loves water.  Get the water hose out to fill the water dish or water the garden, Deuce will amuse himself chasing the water stream.  The groomer says he enjoyed his bath.  

He's got a bit of separation anxiety, but with exercise, training, and a regular routine, he will get used to how you live. 


Need to get in shape by walking? Looking for a running partner? Want a playful friend? Want to snuggle? 

Deuce is your guy!

Strays in the Hood: Look who showed up today.

Well, this is something I didn't expect to see or experience when I finished feeding Nala and Rocky this morning.  

Part of our morning routine is after the big dogs eat and poop in the morning, they come back in the warm garage to sleep until the day warms up a bit.  

This morning, Rocky was unusually barking and hitting the door this morning.  (normally he's totally crashed)

I also hear a neighbor dog barking, so I go to let Rocky and Nala out so they can investigate.  

When I opened the door, they ran right for the neighbor dog to find out what was going on. Then, Nala sprinted to the other side of the fence and started barking.  Rocky followed soon after.

I looked out to see what or who they were barking at...  Is that?...... Deuce?!  

OMG!  I call for him, but he doesn't come to the fence.   I come back inside to put on some shoes to get a closer look, and sure enough.... It's Deuce!!!

He was very nervous at first, but once I came out to the front of the house, he came right up to me and was very glad to see me.  

I fed him and let him in the house to warm up.  (Remember, Rocky is not a fan of his so I couldn't let him just go play) 

I went through my phone and email archives to locate his adopted dad's info.   I sent a text, and an email.  Letting him know that Deuce (aka Marley. They renamed him) was here. That was 9am.  

It is now 1:37PM.

I don't know about you, but if one of my dogs was missing, I would be going crazy to find them.   When Precious got lost a few years ago, I had fliers all over college campus where she got out. 

My mom has said, something must be wrong with his new home if he's getting out & we should try to find him a new home.  Trying to get my brother in TX to pick him up.  He lost his dog a few years ago  and hasn't replaced him.  

What do do?

Update:  1/27/2013 Still no word from the adopted people.  To tell the truth, if they contacted us now, they would not get Deuce back.    We now need to find Deuce a new home.

Strays in the Hood: Deuce Finds his Furever Home! #Deuceinthehouse

I'm so excited to announce that Deuce has his furever home!

Yesterday, Deuce and Precious went for a walk in the park 

Then, we drove out to Petco to get them both groomed.   Our friends at Petco were shocked to see me

walk in with Precious..... and a pitbull, then they quickly fell in love with Deuce.

I told them the story of the Strays in the Hood and let them know that Deuce needed to find a furever home if they knew of anyone who was interested.

When I returned to pick them up, I was told that one of the Petco employees was interested in adopting Deuce.

Wow! 

Richard needed to double check with his family, but after seeing the photos and videos of Deuce, he confirmed that they would love to have him.   

Today, I drove Deuce to his furever home that he will share with his humans, and two other dogs who will be introduced gradually.   

As soon as he walked in the house, Deuce was at home.  He jumped on the couch (photo above) and knew he was home.

Although we got attached to Deuce and we'll miss him, 

I'm so happy for him and Richard.  They are going to have years of fun and love.

Love Conquers Fear #Straysinthehood

Nala has a new bed.  

She didn't exactly "Fit" in Precious' bed although she tried every night.

Precious couldn't wait to return the favor.

Deuce decided to join in on the fun.  

Nala doesn't mind sharing.  

I'm in total awe at how these two dogs went from being too afraid to eat or be around people.. to 

sleeping in comfy dog beds (and the couch).  They are so sweet and loving it saddens me to think of how much running they had to do and how afraid they had to be.

I'm very happy for both of them that they have found this life.   We're still looking for someone to adopt Deuce, but in the meantime.  He will enjoy the good life here.

What have I learned from this experience?

Update 12/9/2012: Rocky is now a member of the snuggle club in our home. After Rocky's adoption didn't go through, We didn't hesitate to add him to our family.  It seems that's how it was meant to be all along. 

Update 2/4/2013: Deuce showed back up outside.  Apparently, we didn't get his adoption the way he wanted.  We found him a wonderful home with a family with kids who love him.  So many lessons. 

Strays in the hood: Deuce the Brindle Pitbull

Guess who's all spoiled rotten and ready to be adopted. It's Deuce! Deuce has recovered well after being neutered last week. His energy level has not changed a bit.

 

Already spoiled, Deuce now has a place on the couch.

His first long walk on the leash, Deuce did a great job.  He got a little freaked out by a few bikers, but by the third one, he was cool.  He did a great job of walking next to me, but he really wanted to run.  

Note:  I haven't posted a lot about Nala because it looks like we're keeping her :)
